Trans-Affirming Therapy in Utah
(Gender-Affirming Therapy for Transgender and Non-binary Individuals, Couples, and Families)
Finding a therapist in Utah who truly understands transgender experiences can feel especially daunting. In a state where LDS culture shapes so much of daily life, you may have experienced messages about gender that left little room for who you actually are. You deserve a therapist who does not just tolerate your identity but celebrates it, someone who understands the unique landscape of being trans in Utah without needing you to explain or justify your existence.
I'm Dr. Lauren Smithee, a queer, PhD-level marriage and family therapist providing trans-affirming therapy virtually throughout Utah. I have years of specialized training in the WPATH Standards of Care and deep experience working with transgender and non-binary individuals, couples navigating transition together, and families adjusting to a loved one's gender journey.
I know that finding a therapist who is truly knowledgeable about trans experiences can be exhausting. You deserve a therapist who celebrates your identity, understands the unique challenges trans people face, and can support you without judgment.
Together, we can work on:
-
exploring your gender identity at your own pace
-
coping with gender dysphoria
-
processing experiences of discrimination, rejection, or microaggressions
-
navigating relationships during transition
-
supporting your mental health while pursuing gender-affirming care
-
strengthening your sense of self and self-compassion
I also specialize in working with couples where one or both partners are trans or non-binary, or where a partner is exploring their gender identity. Whether you're seeking individual support or want to strengthen your relationship during this time, I'm here to help.
I offer virtual sessions at times that fit busy schedules, so I can work with you from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
I see clients throughout Utah, including Salt Lake City, Park City, St. George, Provo, Moab, and Ogden.
